COACH'S FAQ
Teams can recruit players to register as substitutes. Those players are available first to their team and may also accept substitute requests from other teams in the same division.
A substitute who accepts a match request pays a $20 match fee for that match.
The following format applies to divisions other than High School, which uses the CLUB CUP format described below.
Two hours. Two courts. One opponent. Four doubles lines.Lines #1–#3 determine the team match. Line #4 contributes to tiebreakers. Once the DUPR matches are completed and reported, use the remaining court time for social play with both teams.
Except for the High School CLUB CUP format, matches are best 2 of 3 games to 11, win by 2, using traditional side-out scoring.
Teams switch sides for Game 2. If a third game is needed, teams switch sides when the first team reaches 6 points.
Each team receives one 1-minute timeout per game.
High School teams must field at least 4 players: 2 boys and 2 girls. The CLUB CUP format uses 2 courts, 2 hours, and 3 rounds.
Each game is played to 15 points, win by 2, using traditional side-out scoring. Switch sides when the first team reaches 8 points.
- Round 1: Boys Doubles and Girls Doubles.
- Round 2: Mixed Doubles #1 and Mixed Doubles #2.
- Round 3: Boys #1 Singles and Girls #1 Singles.
If teams are tied 3–3 after three rounds, they play a Dreambreaker to 21 points, using rally scoring, win by 1. The Dreambreaker is played as singles, with players rotating out after 4 points.
Yes. Coaching is allowed during timeouts and between games.
Coaching from the sidelines between points or during play is not permitted.
Except for High School teams, a team must field at least 6 players to compete in Doubles Lines #1–#3. If fewer than six players are available, the team defaults the match 0–3. Defaulted matches are not reported to DUPR.
A team's first default results in a warning. A second default results in removal from the ACP League and Championship.
Teams are strongly encouraged to recruit substitutes and use the ACP substitute pool when needed. The goal is to avoid defaults and ensure every team gets the full league experience.
High School teams are an exception to the six-player minimum. They must field at least 4 players: 2 boys and 2 girls. ACP will work directly with high school pickleball clubs and their coaches on participation and match expectations for the CLUB CUP format.
ACP follows the 2026 USA Pickleball Official Rulebook.
All paddles used in ACP competition must appear on the USA Pickleball Approved Paddle List.
